In an earlier post I used my photograph disasters to show why labeling your photos should be a priority. Use this link if you haven’t seen that post) The answer to how do I do it may scare the pants of you! It’s called “meta data”. Now, my approach to techy stuff has always been that I may not understand what it is but I do know how to do it! In this post I will show you “how” just how easy it is!

Easiest Way To Add Metadata To Photos
My experiences of labeling photos by writing on the backs of them was all the proof I needed that it isn’t good enough for something as important for information that relies on memory! (See more) I have lost places, names and dates. Sadly the most importantly, I have lost are the stories behind the photographs.

Step 1: Scan and edit your photograph
Step 2: Remember to give your image a name you can easily recognize, “Vicki in Pram” is better than “IMG 327891”!
Step 3 Go to where your photos are stored and right click on image. This will bring up the “properties” option. ( I use Microsoft 10 so adapt for your system)
Step 4: At the top of the “properties” bar open the “details” option. There you will find places where you can add your information: comments for your stories, date, name, place etc.
That’s it!
From now on every time you share this image the data will go with it. You now know all I know about using meta data to label photographs.
You can let me know how you get on in the comments below.
Just Vicki
